The Kazeem and Juweirat Education Foundation has donated 50 acres of land to the Iseyin Development Union (IDU) for the proposed construction of a correctional centre in Iseyin, Oyo State.

The land, situated at Odò-Ògùn along the Iseyin-Ado-Awaye Road, was formally handed over during a ceremony at the palace of the Aseyin of Iseyin, Oba Sefiu Olawale Ajirotutu I.

The proposed correctional centre is expected to accommodate persons convicted by courts of competent jurisdiction and sentenced to custodial punishment.

The donation is part of the foundation’s stated commitment to supporting projects capable of promoting the development and growth of Iseyin and neighbouring communities.

Representing the foundation and the Owonikoko family, Alhaji Waheed Shittu Owonikoko presented the land document to the Aseyin, who subsequently handed it over to the President of the Iseyin Development Union, Home and Abroad, Alhaji Mubashiru Azeez.

Members of the IDU executive and the Chairman of the Iseyin Council of Societies (ICS), Mr Ganiyu Soliu Keji, witnessed the presentation.

Owonikoko said the donation was consistent with the foundation’s longstanding commitment to initiatives that would have meaningful and lasting impact on Iseyin and its environs.

He said the proposed correctional centre was among projects the foundation considered capable of contributing to the overall development of the area.

Receiving the document, Oba Ajirotutu said the proposed facility could boost the economic development of Iseyin and neighbouring communities.

The monarch said the project had the potential to attract increased human and institutional activities to the area, strengthen security and create employment opportunities for residents.

He also addressed what he described as insinuations over the proposed project, particularly suggestions that the 50-acre parcel could have been used for investments or the establishment of companies.

The Aseyin said the project should be viewed in the context of its potential wider contribution to Iseyin’s development, rather than solely from the perspective of alternative commercial uses of the land.

The monarch thereafter formally presented the land document to Azeez, who thanked the Kazeem and Juweirat Education Foundation and the family of the late Alhaji Kazeem Omosalewa Owonikoko for the donation.

He prayed for continued strength and success for the foundation and the Owonikoko family, while also praying for the repose of the soul of the late Owonikoko and long life for his wife, Alhaja Juweirat Owonikoko.

Azeez also acknowledged the contributions of Mr Oyelayo Kehinde and others, whom he said played significant roles in the efforts leading to the proposed correctional centre.

The handover was done on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
