A former Director of Finance and Account, Federal Ministry of Defence,
Alhaji (Dr.) Ademola Wasiu Alli (AWA) has formally declared his intention to contest the Oyo Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.

He has also unveiled a 129-member grassroots coordination structure to drive his campaign across the district.

The declaration was made on Friday at a maiden grassroots engagement summit held in Eleekara, Afijio Local Government Area of Oyo State, where 11 local government coordinators and 118 ward coordinators were inaugurated under the AWA Grassroots Mobilisation Network.

Addressing party stakeholders, supporters, and political associates, Alli said his aspiration is anchored on a commitment to provide effective representation by leveraging his extensive experience in public administration and governance.

Speaking on the theme, ‘Building Today for Tomorrow: The AWA Solution’ he described himself as a technocrat with deep institutional knowledge of the federal system, noting that his over three decades in the civil service have equipped him with the capacity to attract federal opportunities and development initiatives to Oyo Central.

“I stand before you not as a stranger making promises, but as a son of this soil who has spent over three decades within the systems that govern our nation. When I speak of attracting federal resources, I do so with a clear understanding of how those processes work,” he stated.

Alli aligned his ambition with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which he described as a framework for national transformation through economic diversification, infrastructure development, and social investment.

He pledged to prioritise legislative advocacy, strategic oversight, and responsive constituency engagement if elected, with a focus on infrastructure development, youth employment, agricultural support, healthcare delivery, and human capital development.

In his welcome address, the Director-General of the AWA Grassroots Mobilisation Network, Mogaji Bola Akinyemi, described Alli as a leader of integrity, humility, and proven competence, expressing confidence in his ability to represent the district effectively in the Senate.

Also speaking, a former Chairman of Oyo East Local Government, Otunba (Hon.) Ayodele Amuda, commended Alli and his wife for their character and contributions, urging the newly inaugurated coordinators to remain committed to grassroots mobilisation.

Goodwill messages were delivered by several stakeholders, including Dr. (Mrs.) Ademola Alli, Olufemi Akinyemi, Sakiru Adeleke, and Alhaji AbdulAzeez Ajibade, who mentioned his leadership qualities, academic accomplishments, and longstanding dedication to public service.

A profile presented at the event outlined Alli’s distinguished career in the federal civil service, with key postings at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Ministry of Aviation, Ministry of Budget and National Planning, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.

He was also credited for his role in the National Social Investment Programme between 2015 and 2019, where he served as Project Accountant and Acting National Coordinator of NASSCO, contributing to the establishment of accountability frameworks for the initiative.

Beyond his public service career, Alli’s philanthropic interventions through the AWA Foundation—spanning education, healthcare, and economic empowerment—earned him the 2024 Philanthropist of the Year Award by Radio Nigeria.

The event attracted party leaders, former local government chairmen, religious leaders, traditional title holders, and community stakeholders from across Oyo Central, reflecting what supporters described as growing momentum ahead of the 2027 senatorial contest.
