The Senate has confirmed General Christopher Musa as Nigeria’s new Minister of Defence, after a rigorous five-hour screening session. President Bola Tinubu had nominated him for the position on Tuesday December 2, 2025, after the previous Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, resigned due to health reasons.

During his screening, Musa assured the Senate of his commitment to professionalism, coordination among security agencies, and adherence to democratic oversight. He also pledged to investigate recent security lapses, including the withdrawal of troops from a school in Kebbi State before a kidnapping incident. Musa, a retired General, served as Chief of Defence Staff from June 2023 to October 2025 and has extensive experience in counter-insurgency and security operations.
