The Federal Government is set to increase Nigeria’s power generation capacity by 7,000-megawatt through a Siemens-backed project. Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, announced that the initiative has entered its first major implementation phase, following the completion of preliminary work.

The project, aimed at upgrading Nigeria’s power infrastructure, was accelerated after President Bola Tinubu met with German Chancellor. Adelabu, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Communication and Media Relations, Mr. Bolaji Tunji, expressed optimism that the injection of 7,000-megawatt would significantly improve power supply across the country.

According to him, Nigeria’s power generation has risen from 4,000-megawatt to between 5,003 and 5,008-megawatt in two years, despite having an installed capacity of 13,000-megawatt.

He assured Nigerians that grid-strengthening efforts are ongoing, prioritising a robust transmission backbone to support sustainable power supply.
