Residents of Ibadan have been urged to endure the short-term disruptions caused by the ongoing Ibadan Circular Road project, as its long-term economic and urban development benefits will far outweigh present inconveniences.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chairman of the Oyo State Project Performance Monitoring Agency (OYSPPMA), Engr. Muftau Open-Salawu, gave the assurance, when he featured on a live television programme, Guest of the Month, of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) in Ibadan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He explained that major infrastructure upgrades inevitably come with discomfort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Describing the 110-kilometre Ibadan Circular Road as a landmark project, Open-Salawu said it would soon become a defining reference point in the state\u2019s development trajectory.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is no gain without pain. From global case studies, whenever a city is upgraded, some residents will be affected. But the benefits always outweigh the challenges,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He explained that one of the immediate gains of the project would be the diversion of heavy-duty trucks away from inner-city roads, reducing traffic congestion, road damage and accidents within the metropolis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, the road will also catalyse massive, planned urbanisation along its corridor, leading to the emergence of new settlements equipped with modern infrastructure, such as electricity, water supply, drainage systems and proper addressing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhenever infrastructure goes in, development follows. The circular road will open up new cities and enable proper planning for the future,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open-Salawu further linked the initiative to improved data generation, noting that structured developments along the corridor would enhance the collection of reliable data on population, housing and utilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While acknowledging grievances arising from land acquisition, he assured affected residents that compensation mechanisms were in place and that many would ultimately benefit from the development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He commended Governor Seyi Makinde for demonstrating strong leadership in pursuing people-oriented projects, despite opposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe moment a leader is convinced that a decision serves the general good, he must go ahead,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The OYSPPMA chairman added that the circular road forms part of a broader strategy to attract investment, alongside key projects, such as the Moniya Dry Seaport and the upgrade of Ibadan Airport to international standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He disclosed that the administration has constructed about 910 kilometres of roads across the state, enhancing connectivity and boosting economic activities, particularly in agriculture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open-Salawu also listed the agency\u2019s commitment to transparency, noting that it maintains a comprehensive database of contractors and regularly publishes project status reports for public accountability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
